Fremont Bridge Counter Visualized
Seattle installed its first bike counter on October 11th, 2012 and has been quietly counting people as they pass on their bikes since then. The counter passed the one million mark back in November and as an exercise to expand my bag of tricks, I decided to do a little visualization of the data using Tableau. I’ve been using Tableau for about four months now, but this is the first time that I’ve used it with a live and updating source. The information on data.seattle.gov has an OData connection, which means that I can connect to that source once and then this visualization is automatically updated.
SDOT has their own visualization of the data up on the website here. I like their peak hours when viewed by day and the second sheet that explores the effect of rain on the numbers (Hint: It doesn’t help). What I’ve added here is a closer look at direction and time of day compared with their version. Feel free to explore and take a look!
