Design: City of Tacoma MLK Subarea Posters
As part of my internship with the City of Tacoma and in addition to the work done at McCarver Elementary School, I created two full size poster boards for their community outreach meeting in December of 2012. The posters highlight the changes that the Hilltop Neighborhood has gone through over the past 75 years, both in terms of the physical neighborhood and the diverse communities who call it home.
During the presentation of the posters, one of the men featured on the communities poster, Harold Moss, happened to be in attendance. A newspaper clipping from 1971 was included on the poster that featured him because he would eventually rise from grassroots activism in the Hilltop to the first African-American mayor of Tacoma. It was an honor to meet him and for him to share stories about the other people on the poster that were part of the community from that time.
